Ruffian Nail Lacquer- The Crowdsourced Collection

Fashion label Ruffian is making strides in breaking the ‘insiders’ and ‘outsiders’ divide that comes with each fashion week by partnering with Birchbox to create their first ever nail lacquer collection. Available in six shades, Ruffian and Birchbox even had their subscribers crowdsource which three colors would be worn on the Ruffian Spring 2014 runway during New York Fashion Week. As an ‘unbiased’ fashion world outsider, I freaking love that they did this.

I had the chance to sample Fox Hunt, an orange red lacquer that is part of the Crowdsourced Collection to be worn during Ruffian’s NYFW show. Yeah, I’m that ahead in my nail game that I’m wearing a color that will soon be featured during fashion week. You read that right. I’m writing this a week after my manicure and despite having to do an ungodly amount of dishes this week on top of a day trip to the beach, I actually have zero chips in my polish. I did splurge and have the manicure done at Ten Over Ten (which Fashionista.com  declared ‘the best nail salon ever‘ at one point) so I am sure that has some impact on the lasting power.

When the Fox Hunt polish was very meticulously applied — in a way I will never ever be able to replicate on my own — I was very surprised at the thickness and color coverage of one coat alone. The color is super glossy and there is subtle shimmer that I was not expecting. It almost takes on a somewhat metallic quality. Though the color is primarily orange, it has strong red tones and even appears as coral in certain lighting.
