Floral Wishes, Seafoam Dreams: Spring Style with Birchbox and Madewell

Herein lies the guide to spring style for the person who wears the same pair of black jeans half of the week. For the ladies wondering if this may be their time to finally try a bold lip (the answer is a definite yes), but still working up the courage to wear it in public. Beauty subscription service Birchbox and effortlessly cool clothing company Madewell joined forces to bring to life what this spring’s style is all about by inviting a few bloggers to take part in their spring style photoshoot. Here’s the full behind the scenes tales of facing my spring makeup and style fears, one floral print at a time.

The morning started with the lovely and talented makeup artist, Nam Vo expertly placing individual false lashes, highlighted by eyeshadow from Stila’s In the Light Palette. Next was a little flush of color from Laura Geller Beauty Baked Blush-n-Brighten in Pink Grapefruit and a bright red Armour Beauty lip in Barracuda. Jan-Marie Arteca from Jeff Chastain Parlor provided an easy breezy beachy wave to my hair, with the help of Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray.

Why can’t every single day begin like this?

Nam Vo’s photo shoot advice: “When you re-apply your lipgloss, put on as much as you think you need. Then put on some more.”

Hair and makeup in place, I thought I was prepared to march into Madewell and quickly put together the perfect spring look. *Buzzer sound* Umm, no. I overestimated my own ability to be a decisive shopper and underestimated how many cute, perfect for spring items I would be sifting through in the bi-level Madewell store. I’ve been known to almost buy the same shirt four times and still leave it at the store. Think of what too many options can do to such a person.

There were dresses, jean jackets, the quintessential chambray shirt, printed pants, striped skirts to name a few items… and they were all in my dressing room. Staring at me. Luckily even someone whose idea of styling means making sure her pants (yeah those black pants) and shirt don’t clash can put together a look at Madewell.

Ready, set, spring: In the end, I just had to go with the Denim Cutoff Shorts in Palm. Maybe it’s the West Coast girl in me, but I love me some shorts with a sweater on top, especially layered over the Silk Boyshirt and paired with the high heel on the comfortable Andie sandal. I can fit everything I need plus my Macbook in the Transport Tote, which is perfect for all the time I intend to spend outside once this spring winter snow garbage passes. One of my favorite items turned out to be the smallest: the Stampdot Statement Necklace with Turquoise.

Last but not least, I got my Hepcat on with these vintage inspired sunglasses.  Here’s to a happy spring and seafoam green dreams.
