Hair by Patrick Melville for Rolando Santana Spring 2013 at New York Fashion Week

Maybe it’s because he was a boxer prior to deciding his true passion was styling hair, but Patrick Melville, celebrity hairstylist and owner of Patrick Melville Salon was unusually calm and pleasant despite the mounting chaos at the Rolando Santana Spring 2013 New York Fashion Week show. Backstage beauty seemed to be a less formidable opponent than he has faced in the ring as he comfortably instructed the hair dressers and worked on models while chatting with members of the press. Melville even took the time to share the details of his hair inspiration for the Rolando Santana Spring 2013 show and spilled some celebrity hair secrets with me.

“I was inspired by the aquatic nature of the clothing. The clothing always guides the hair.” His beach texture hair added a 1970’s straighter and sleeker twist to popular beach waves, adding volume and texture with Aveeno Dry Shampoo. Patrick also shared that he would be doing Catherine Zeta Jones hair for the Michael Kors Spring 2013 NYFW show, using his fresh take on beach texture hair to guide her look.

Try the Rolando Santana runway look on your own in 4 easy steps:

Step 1: Prior to blow-drying, apply a volumizing spray at root and smooth a styling glaze through the length and ends of damp hair.
Step 2: Blow-dry hair straight with a flat boar hairbrush, which creates a nice glossy polish and shine to the hair.
Step 3: Once hair is fully dried, apply AVEENO® Pure Renewal™ Dry Shampoo at the root to create lift and intensify the texture.
Step 4: Lastly, run hands through hair to form an irregular part.

Viola! If you did it right, you’ll look more or less like Jaslene Gonzalez, winner of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 8. If not, I’m positive you’ll look great anyways since this is really a foolproof, polished look.
